During the weekends, the northern regions of the Philippine archipelago has been battered by a strong tropical storm, code named "Cosme", by the local weather bureau.
The hardest hit were the provinces of Pangasinan, Zambales and La Union.
The damage to properties, lives, infrastructure and livelihood is so extensive which prompted the local governments to declare a "state of calamity" to their respective jurisdictions.
Until now, power supply has not been restored to normal yet. The transmission substation is still being repaired, while some distribution utilities like the Manila Electric Co. Inc. MERALCO), Angeles Electric Corp. (AEC), Tarlac Electric Inc. (TEI), and Cabanatuan Electric Corp. (CELCOR), are assisting Dagupan Electric Corp. (DECORP) and La Union Electric Co. Inc. (LUECO) for the restoration of their damaged distribution networks.
Assurances from the National Transmission Corp. (TRANSCO) have been known to the affected distribution utilities that the latest the former could transmit power is on Thursday, May 22, but up to 10 megawatts only.
As per estimation by the power distributors themselves, their normal operations might resume by next month.
