Toyota Motor Philippines set a new record sales

Leading automotive manufacturer Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMPC) reached an all-time high in year-to-date sales as it sold 45,091 units in 2007, surpassing its pre-Asian financial crisis sales record of 41,801 units attained in 1996. TMPC became the first automotive firm in the Philippines to achieve such feat, according to the report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI). This puts the firm in a favorable position with 38.2% market share.

On a per segment basis, Toyota snagged first place for both passenger car and commercial vehicle segments with 37.3% and 38.7% market share, respectively.

On a per model basis, four out of five of the country's best selling vehicles are Toyota products. The Philippines' best selling car is the multipurpose Innova, with 10,544 units sold, followed by the Vios sedan with 8,717 units. The Fortuner SUV has came in fourth with 7,216 units sold, while fifth place is Avanza with 6,257 units sold.

Globally, Toyota is in virtual tie with General Motors (GM). Another historic feat for the leading Japanese automaker knowing that the latter has reigned for 76 years as the world's top automaker. Both firms had reported a global sales of 9.37-million units.
